About Bauls and Their Tradition of Mystic Ministrels

BAULS are a spiritual group from Bengal, northern India, which developed from combining the traditions of Tantric
Buddhism (Sahajiya) and Devotional Hinduism (Vaishnava). They did not adhere to any rigid religious doctrine or
to any cast system or to any conventional way of life. They combine various spiritual traditions towards a natural,
spontaneous and authentic path which matches very well with the organic wisdom of the body.

They are lovers of Divine and their music, dances and their lyrics reflects their passion, love and authentic freedom.
They are known as “Minstrels of God”.

Bauls do not have scriptures; their spiritual teaching is encoded in their music and their lyrics. Bauls represent the
possibility of living life with passion and with a direct connection to the Divine. They live without material possessions,
they travel from place to place inspiring people through their presence and their art.
